SKILL.md
Systems Thinking
What this skill does
Use this skill to understand why a system behaves the way it does.
Focus on recurring patterns, hidden structures, relationships, and feedback loops instead of only visible events.
When to use it
Use this when the request is mainly about:
- recurring patterns over time
- hidden causes behind visible events
- relationships between actors, forces, or components
- stabilizing or self-correcting dynamics
- compounding or runaway dynamics
When not to use it
Do not use this when the main task is choosing between explicit options, prioritizing work, or drafting a message for someone else. In those cases use decision-making or communication.
Framework selection guide
- Use
Iceberg Modelfor event -> pattern -> structure -> mental model analysis. - Use
Connection Circlesto map relationships and surface loops. - Use
Concept Mapto organize entities and dependencies. - Use
Balancing Feedback Loopfor self-correcting or stabilizing behavior. - Use
Reinforcing Feedback Loopfor compounding or runaway behavior.
Choose one best-fit framework unless the request clearly needs a follow-up framing step.
Working method
- State the system or behavior being examined.
- Choose the best-fit framework.
- Explain why that framework fits.
- Apply it step by step.
- Surface the key system insight.
- Recommend the next practical intervention or question.
Ask a clarifying question only if the system boundary or observed behavior is too vague to analyze usefully.
Output format
Goal:Chosen framework:Why this framework:Inputs / assumptions:Step-by-step application:Result:Recommended next action:
Prefer practical interventions over abstract commentary.
Example triggers
- Why does this problem keep coming back after every fix?
- Map the feedback loops in our onboarding system.
- Help me understand the hidden structure behind this recurring issue.
