Open Launch Platform Help

Helps the user with Open Launch platform questions — from submitting a product and understanding the tiered backlink system through premium launch options, daily rankings, and SEO Growth packages.

Step 1 — Gather context

Ask the user:

  1. What do you need help with?

    • A) Submitting a product — preparing a listing, choosing a tier
    • B) Getting a backlink — understanding free vs paid backlink conditions
    • C) Premium launch — evaluating $12 or $59 options
    • D) Climbing daily rankings — upvotes, engagement, visibility
    • E) Comparing Open Launch with Product Hunt or other directories
    • F) Something else — describe it
  2. What stage is your product?

    • A) Idea stage — haven't built anything yet
    • B) MVP / prototype — working but early
    • C) Launched — live product with users
    • D) Growing — looking for more visibility
  3. What's your goal?

    • A) First users and feedback
    • B) SEO backlinks (DR65 dofollow)
    • C) Community visibility and daily ranking
    • D) All of the above

If the user's request already provides most of this context, skip directly to the relevant step. Lead with your best-effort answer using reasonable assumptions (stated explicitly), then ask only the most critical 1-2 clarifying questions at the end.

Step 2 — Route or answer directly

If the request maps to a specialized skill, route:

  • Launch strategy across multiple directories → /sales-launch-directory
  • Product launch strategy and funnels → /sales-funnel
  • Email list building / audience growth → /sales-audience-growth
  • Email marketing to subscribers → /sales-email-marketing
  • Landing page / checkout optimization → /sales-checkout
  • CtrlAlt.cc-specific questions → /sales-ctrlaltcc
  • MicroLaunch-specific questions → /sales-microlaunch
  • LaunchingNext-specific questions → /sales-launchingnext
  • ProductBurst-specific questions → /sales-productburst
  • SoloPush-specific questions → /sales-solopush
  • SideProjectors buy/sell questions → /sales-sideprojectors
  • Huzzler-specific questions → /sales-huzzler
  • Firsto-specific questions → /sales-firsto

Otherwise, answer directly from platform knowledge below.

Step 3 — Open Launch platform reference

How Open Launch works

Open Launch is the first complete open-source alternative to Product Hunt. Products launch daily, get upvoted by the community, and compete for daily/monthly rankings. The platform lists 1,000+ tools across AI, SaaS, Productivity, Marketing, and Design categories.

Key difference: Open source (TypeScript, GitHub repo with 298+ stars) and a tiered backlink system where free backlinks are conditional while paid backlinks are guaranteed.

Submission flow

  1. Create an account on Open Launch
  2. Submit your product: name, description, URL, screenshots
  3. Choose a tier: Free (queue), Premium ($12, launch tomorrow), or SEO Growth ($59)
  4. All launches happen at 8:00 AM UTC
  5. Community upvotes determine daily rankings
  6. Daily and monthly winners get recognition

Pricing tiers

Tier Cost Backlink Queue What you get
Free $0 Conditional dofollow (Top 3 daily + display badge) Queue wait Homepage feature, standard launch
Premium $12/launch Guaranteed DR65 dofollow Launch tomorrow Next-day launch, 10 slots/day, homepage feature
SEO Growth $59 (was $199) Guaranteed DR65 dofollow + SEO article 5-7 day article delivery Dedicated "[Product] review" article, Google ranking strategy, premium launch

Free backlink conditions (important!)

The free tier backlink is not automatic. You must meet BOTH conditions:

  1. Finish in Top 3 daily ranking — your product must be one of the 3 most-upvoted products that day
  2. Display the Open Launch badge on your website — they verify this

If you don't meet both conditions, you get the listing but NOT the dofollow backlink. This makes the free backlink significantly harder to earn than on other platforms.

Visibility system

Mechanism How it works Benefit
Daily rankings Community upvotes, resets daily Homepage visibility, Top 3 get backlinks (free tier)
Monthly winners Aggregated monthly performance Extended recognition
Streaks Consecutive-day engagement Badge achievements, featured placement
SEO articles Dedicated review articles ($59) Long-term Google traffic for "[Product] review"

SEO value

  • DR 65 domain rating — highest among indie launch platforms (higher than MicroLaunch DR59, LaunchingNext DR51, ProductBurst DR46)
  • DA 21 (Moz)
  • Backlink type: Dofollow (guaranteed on paid tiers, conditional on free)
  • Product pages stay live permanently
  • SEO Growth articles rank for "[Product] review" keywords — long-term organic traffic

Categories

AI (1,010 tools), SaaS (915), Productivity (741), Marketing (387), Design (340), and more.

Technical details

  • Open source: TypeScript on GitHub (openlaunch-org/Open-Launch, 298+ stars)

Step 4 — Actionable guidance

Submission checklist

Step What to do Why it matters
1. Prepare your listing Clear name, problem-focused description, screenshots First impression drives upvotes
2. Choose your tier Free (patient + confident in Top 3), Premium ($12), or SEO Growth ($59) Determines backlink guarantee and timing
3. Optimize for 8 AM UTC Ensure your network is ready to upvote at launch time Early upvotes drive daily ranking position
4. Share externally Post your Open Launch listing on Twitter, communities External traffic drives upvotes
5. Engage with voters Respond to comments, thank upvoters Active engagement increases visibility
6. Display the badge (free tier) Add the Open Launch badge to your site Required for free-tier backlink

Which tier to choose

Free ($0) when:

  • Budget is zero AND you're confident you can reach Top 3 daily
  • You're willing to display the Open Launch badge on your site
  • You don't mind waiting in the queue
  • The backlink isn't critical (you're submitting for visibility only)

Premium ($12) when:

  • You want the DR65 backlink guaranteed — no conditions
  • You need to control your launch timing (next day)
  • You don't want to gamble on reaching Top 3
  • Best value per dollar of any paid launch directory option

SEO Growth ($59) when:

  • You want both the backlink AND long-term Google search traffic
  • A dedicated "[Product] review" article adds credibility
  • You're investing in SEO and want content that ranks
  • You value the article as marketing collateral beyond just the backlink

Multi-directory launch strategy

Open Launch works best as one platform in a broader launch. Use /sales-launch-directory for the full cross-platform strategy, but here's where Open Launch fits:

  1. SoloPush + ProductBurst — instant listings (Day 1)
  2. Open Launch Premium ($12) — next-day launch with DR65 backlink (Day 2) — best backlink-per-dollar in the group
  3. MicroLaunch — 30-day leaderboard cycle
  4. CtrlAlt.cc + LaunchingNext — curated directories (queue or pay to skip)
  5. Product Hunt — save for main launch event

Maximizing daily rankings

  • Coordinate your network: All launches are at 8:00 AM UTC. Have your supporters ready.
  • Early momentum matters: Products that get upvotes in the first hours tend to maintain their ranking.
  • Cross-promote: Share your Open Launch page on X/Twitter, relevant subreddits, Slack communities.
  • Engage in comments: Active founders who respond to questions get more community support.

Gotchas

Best-effort from research — review these, especially items about plan-gated features and integration gotchas that may be outdated.

  • Free backlink is NOT automatic. This is the most important gotcha. Unlike every other directory in this category, Open Launch's free backlink requires BOTH Top 3 daily ranking AND displaying their badge on your site. If you just want a guaranteed backlink, pay the $12.
  • $12 Premium is unusually cheap. At $12 for a guaranteed DR65 dofollow backlink, this is the best backlink-per-dollar value in the launch directory ecosystem. A comparable DR65 backlink through outreach could cost $200+.
  • SEO Growth article uses AI. The $59 article is created with "product testing and AI assistance" then reviewed by humans. Quality may vary. It's non-refundable once purchased.
  • 10 Premium slots per day. Premium launches are capped at 10/day. On busy days these could sell out — plan accordingly.
  • DR65 but DA21. The DR (Ahrefs) and DA (Moz) metrics diverge significantly. DR65 is strong; DA21 is modest. Depending on which metric you track, the perceived value differs.
  • Traffic is modest. Like most indie launch directories, don't expect Product Hunt-level visitor numbers. The value is primarily the backlink and listing presence.
  • Open source means community-run. The platform is maintained by a small team of contributors. Feature development and support depend on community participation.
  • 8:00 AM UTC launch time is fixed. No flexibility on when your product appears. Coordinate your promotion schedule around this time.

Examples

Example 1: Launch a SaaS tool on Open Launch

User says: "I built an AI writing tool and want to launch it on Open Launch to get backlinks and early users" Skill does:

  1. Walks through submission checklist: name, description, screenshots, URL
  2. Recommends Premium tier ($12) for guaranteed DR65 backlink — best value in the ecosystem
  3. Advises coordinating network for 8:00 AM UTC launch to maximize daily ranking
  4. Suggests sharing the Open Launch page on Twitter and relevant communities for upvotes
  5. Recommends pairing with ProductBurst and SoloPush for same-day instant listings Result: Optimized listing with tier recommendation and promotion strategy

Example 2: Evaluate free vs paid tiers on Open Launch

User says: "Should I pay for Open Launch Premium or just do the free submission?" Skill does:

  1. Explains the critical difference: free backlink requires Top 3 daily + badge display, paid is guaranteed
  2. Notes $12 is the cheapest guaranteed dofollow backlink in the launch directory ecosystem (DR65)
  3. Calculates ROI: a DR65 backlink through outreach costs $200+ — $12 is exceptional value
  4. Recommends $12 Premium for anyone who values the backlink
  5. Recommends free only if budget is truly zero AND they're confident in reaching Top 3 Result: Clear cost-benefit analysis with strong recommendation for $12 Premium

Example 3: Compare Open Launch with Product Hunt

User says: "Should I launch on Open Launch or Product Hunt?" Skill does:

  1. Compares the two: PH is highest-traffic/stakes (DR91, 24-hour window) vs Open Launch (DR65, daily rankings, open source)
  2. Notes Open Launch is lower pressure with a more affordable paid option ($12 vs free-only on PH)
  3. Recommends Open Launch first as practice for Product Hunt — refine messaging with lower stakes
  4. Advises using Open Launch's $12 Premium to lock in the DR65 backlink, then focus on PH
  5. Outlines sequence: Open Launch → other directories → Product Hunt Result: Clear launch sequence with rationale

Troubleshooting

Free listing but no dofollow backlink

Symptom: Product is listed on Open Launch but the backlink is nofollow or missing Cause: Free-tier backlinks require BOTH conditions: (1) finishing Top 3 in daily ranking, and (2) displaying the Open Launch badge on your website. If either condition isn't met, you don't get the dofollow backlink. Solution: If the backlink matters to you, the simplest fix is upgrading to Premium ($12) — it guarantees the DR65 dofollow backlink with no conditions. If you want to earn it free, boost your upvotes (share with your network at 8 AM UTC launch) and add the Open Launch badge to your site's footer.

Product stuck in the free queue

Symptom: Submitted days/weeks ago but product hasn't launched yet Cause: Free submissions enter a queue. Open Launch limits the number of daily launches to ensure each product gets visibility, so the queue backs up. Solution: Upgrade to Premium ($12) for next-day launch. The 10 daily premium slots rarely sell out. If budget is tight, be patient — your product will eventually launch. Use the wait time to refine your listing and prepare your promotion strategy for launch day.

Low upvotes despite being on the daily feed

Symptom: Product launched but barely got any upvotes Cause: Open Launch has modest organic traffic. Without external promotion, your listing relies on the platform's existing user base, which is smaller than Product Hunt. Solution: Don't rely on organic discovery. Share your Open Launch page at exactly 8:00 AM UTC when your listing goes live. Tweet it, post in relevant communities, tell your email list. Early upvote momentum determines your daily ranking position. Engage with every comment. Consider the streak system to build your profile presence over time.
