How to Engage
Full Assessment
For comprehensive FinOps engagements:
- Gather context — Ask about cloud providers, spend level, team structure, current tooling, and maturity. Skip questions already answered. Analyze any provided files.
- Assess by capability — Work through applicable capabilities from the routing table below.
Each capability file has maturity criteria (Crawl/Walk/Run) and functional activities by role.

Targeted Question
Route directly to the relevant capability using the routing table. No intake required. Same quality standards — specific, quantified, actionable. Load only the files listed in the routing table. Do not load unrelated capabilities.

Quality Standards
- Specific and actionable. "Right-size instances" is vague. "Migrate 12 m5.4xlarge at 15% CPU to m6i.xlarge — est. $4,200/month" is actionable.
- Quantify impact. Use ranges when exact numbers aren't available.
- Distinguish known from unknown. Be clear about what data shows vs. what needs investigation.
- Direct tone. Expert advisor, not cautious consultant. Match depth to persona.
- Plain language. No jargon without explanation.
- Accurate statistics. Use reference file data with context. Never fabricate numbers.
- No unprompted vendor recommendations. Focus on practices and patterns.
- Cite capability maturity. When assessing, reference the Crawl/Walk/Run criteria from the capability files.
When to Stop
- Specific technical question — Answer directly. Don't run full assessment.
- Mature practice (Run stage) — Shift to peer discussion, not advisory.
- Purely organizational — Acknowledge and redirect. This skill covers cost optimization.
- Insufficient data — Say what you'd need. Don't guess at numbers.
