Source: Russell Brunson - Expert Secrets: The Underground Playbook for Creating a Mass Movement of People Who Will Pay for Your Advice (2017)

Core Principle: Every mass movement has three elements: a charismatic leader offering a new opportunity with a future-based cause. Master these elements to build a tribe of people who will pay for your expertise.

"Your message has the ability to change someone's life. The impact that the right message can have on someone at the right time in their life is immeasurable."

Instructions

Part 1: Creating Your Mass Movement

Every mass movement requires three elements:

Element Purpose Question to Answer
Charismatic Leader Someone to follow Who are you as a guide?
New Opportunity A vehicle for change What transformation do you offer?
Future-Based Cause A vision to unite around Where are you leading them?

Element 1: The Charismatic Leader

Choose Your Attractive Character Type

The Leader

  • Lead by example
  • Share your experiences and expertise
  • Demonstrate success others can emulate
  • Best when: You've achieved remarkable results

The Adventurer/Crusader

  • Take followers on a journey
  • Explore new grounds and break barriers
  • Not afraid of risks
  • Best when: You're discovering alongside your audience

The Reporter/Relater

  • Bridge between experts and audience
  • Gather, organize, and share information
  • Bring insights from top experts
  • Best when: You're newer but passionate about learning

The Five Phases to Becoming an Expert

Phase Action Key Activities
1. The Dreamer Feel the calling Recognize your spark and desire to help
2. The Reporter Learn everything Interview experts, attend events, consume content
3. Framework Builder Create your method Synthesize learnings into proprietary frameworks
4. Work for Free Test on others Find beta group, gather testimonials
5. The Expert Publish and scale Daily content, documented journey, refined material

The Publishing Commitment:

"If you can publish every day for a year, you'll never have to worry about money problems again."

Element 2: The New Opportunity

Why New Opportunity Beats Improvement

People don't want to be told their current approach is wrong (improvement offer). They want a completely new vehicle for achieving their desires (new opportunity).

Improvement Offer New Opportunity
"Fix your diet" "Try intermittent fasting"
"Work harder at sales" "Use this new closing system"
"Improve your ads" "Build funnels instead"
Implies past failure Fresh start, no baggage

The Status Secret

"Almost every decision you've ever made was based on this one subconscious question: Is this thing I'm considering going to increase my status or decrease it?"

What stops action? Fear of decreased status.

Your job: Load up the elevated-status side and minimize risk through:

  • Money-back guarantees
  • Risk reversals
  • Done-for-you options
  • Social proof

Finding Your New Opportunity

Step 1: Identify the result your dream customers want

Step 2: Identify the vehicle they're currently using

Step 3: Create your opportunity switch (new vehicle)

Step 4: Stack additional value on the new opportunity

Element 3: The Future-Based Cause

Create Your Platform

Think of it like a presidential campaign. What's your slogan?

Examples:

  • "You're just one funnel away..."
  • "Make America Great Again"
  • "Yes We Can"

Your Turn: What is the rallying cry for your movement?

Give Them an Identity Shift

Component Purpose Example
Tribe Name Create belonging "Funnel Hackers"
"I am" Statement Personal identity "I am a Funnel Hacker"
Manifesto Declaration of beliefs Written statement of your movement's values

Create Milestone Awards

Recognition for progress along the journey:

  • Certifications
  • Badges
  • Public recognition
  • Exclusive access at each level

Part 2: Creating Belief

The Big Domino

Find the ONE belief that, if they believe it, makes buying inevitable.

Template: "If I can make people believe that [my new opportunity] is the key to [the result they desire most] and is only available through [my specific vehicle/frameworks], then all other objections and concerns become irrelevant and they have to give me money."

Example: "If I can make people believe that sales funnels are the key to growing their online business and are only available through ClickFunnels, then all other objections become irrelevant."

The Epiphany Bridge

A storytelling formula that guides your audience to their own "aha" moment.

The Epiphany Bridge Script:

  1. The Backstory - Context and setup
  2. The Wall - The problem you encountered (similar to theirs)
  3. The Epiphany - The realization that changed everything
  4. The Transformation - The result after the breakthrough

Key Insight: Don't just tell them what to believe—take them on a journey so they arrive at the belief themselves.

Breaking False Belief Patterns

Three types of false beliefs to overcome:

Belief Type What It Is Example Objection
Vehicle About your opportunity "Funnels don't work in my industry"
Internal About themselves "I'm not tech-savvy enough"
External About outside factors "I don't have the time/money"

For each false belief, you need:

  • A story that breaks the old belief
  • A new belief to replace it

Part 3: The Perfect Webinar

Structure Overview

Section 1: The Intro (5-10 minutes)

  • Hook them with a compelling promise
  • Establish credibility
  • Preview the offer (create curiosity)

Section 2: The Content (45-60 minutes)

  • Secret #1: The One Thing (breaks Vehicle belief)
  • Secret #2: The Hidden Benefit (breaks Internal belief)
  • Secret #3: The New Opportunity (breaks External belief)

Section 3: The Stack & Close (20-30 minutes)

  • Present the Stack Slide
  • Use Trial Closes throughout
  • Handle objections
  • Create urgency
  • Call to action

The Three Secrets Framework

Secret Purpose Belief It Breaks
Secret #1: The One Thing Share unique insight that changes their thinking Vehicle (about the opportunity)
Secret #2: The Hidden Benefit Reveal unexpected advantage Internal (about themselves)
Secret #3: The New Opportunity Present your complete system External (about circumstances)

Each secret follows the Epiphany Bridge structure.

Trial Closes

Micro-commitments throughout your presentation:

When to use:

  • After each teaching point: "Can you see why this is important?"
  • Before the pitch: "Can you see how this could work for you?"
  • During the stack: "Can you see how this bonus alone is worth the price?"
  • Before closing: "Can you imagine the impact this would have?"

Purpose: Create a pattern of "yes" so the final yes (buying) feels natural.

Part 4: The Stack Slide

Building Your Stack

Step 1: Define your core offer (the main thing they're buying)

Step 2: Add supporting elements:

  • Bonus #1: Addresses Vehicle belief
  • Bonus #2: Addresses Internal belief
  • Bonus #3: Addresses External belief
  • Fast-action bonuses
  • Guarantees

Step 3: Assign value to each element

Step 4: Present each item, building perceived value

Step 5: Total the stack value (should be 10x the price)

Step 6: Reveal the actual price

Value Presentation Template

Here's everything you're getting:

[Core Offer] .......................... $X,XXX value
[Bonus #1: Addresses concern] ......... $XXX value
[Bonus #2: Saves time/effort] ......... $XXX value
[Bonus #3: Additional resource] ....... $XXX value
[Fast-action bonus] ................... $XXX value

Total Value: $XX,XXX

But you're not paying $XX,XXX...
You're not even paying $X,XXX...

Today, your investment is just $XXX

Packaging Your Expertise

The Value Ladder

Package the same frameworks at different price points:

Format Price Range Fulfillment
Free content $0 DIY
Lead magnet $0 DIY

Online course $97-997 DIY
Group coaching $997-2,997 Do it with you
Mastermind $10K-100K Do it with you
