Decision Rule

Default to fidelity-first PNG placement when the user wants the slide to look the same quickly, especially for screenshots, complex illustrations, gradients, shadows, charts, and icon-library assets where editability is not required.

Use native PPT reconstruction when the user needs editable text, lines, panels, cards, tables, flow nodes, or other layout geometry and accepts slower manual/scripted reconstruction.

For bitmap-backed slide reconstruction, use a hybrid: editable PPT text/shapes for layout and PNG icons for semantic icon replacements.

Fidelity Answer

PNG placement has the highest same-look fidelity in PowerPoint because it preserves rendered pixels. Native PPT reconstruction improves editability but can reduce visual parity because fonts, shadows, antialiasing, and icon details render differently.

Practical ranking:

  1. Highest same-look fidelity: high-resolution PNG in PPT.
  2. Best editable layout: native PPT shapes/text rebuilt by hand or script, with PNG icons for speed and stability.
  3. Best compromise: hybrid reconstruction: editable structure plus selected PNG assets where exact editability is not needed.
