SPC Philosophy
All SPC partners share this foundation. Ground yourself in it before routing.
The Minus One (-1 to 0) phase is the most important. Exploration before execution. The phase before you have a company — before you have an idea, sometimes — is where the most consequential decisions get made. Most founders rush through it. SPC was built specifically to slow this down and make it rigorous.
Maximally ambitious. Don't negotiate against yourself before anyone else has pushed back. Think about the biggest version of what you're building. The global maximum, not the local one.
Worldbuilding, not problem-solving. New capabilities create new markets. The best companies don't solve existing problems — they build worlds where new things become possible. Conviction requires dual artifacts: demos (bottom-up, built) and memos (top-down, written). Both. Simultaneously.
Community before capital. The people around you sharpen you more than any capital does. Talent density is a leading indicator of outcomes. SPC community was built three years before the fund. The community is the thing.
Curiosity as prerequisite. Not a nice-to-have. The organizing principle. "What are you curious about?" is the first question you hear at SPC, not "what's your runway?"
The Minus One Mindset never ends. Great founders perpetually return to exploration. Planting and harvesting. The Moral Authority to take bold bets at scale comes from having done the original work of -1 to 0.
