Competitive Battlecard Creation
Build structured sales battlecards that arm reps with everything they need to win against specific competitors. This skill researches competitor products, maps feature-level comparisons, drafts objection handling scripts, creates positioning statements and win themes, and packages the output into a quick-reference format reps can pull up mid-call.
Workflow
-
Research the Competitor — Gather current intelligence on the competitor: product capabilities, pricing model, recent product launches, G2/Gartner reviews, customer complaints, leadership changes, and public roadmap signals. Pull from their website, changelog, job postings (which reveal investment areas), and customer review sites.
-
Identify Strengths and Weaknesses — Map the competitor's genuine strengths (don't ignore them — reps need to acknowledge what the competitor does well) and exploitable weaknesses. Categorize weaknesses as product gaps, architectural limitations, pricing disadvantages, support deficiencies, or market positioning misalignment.
-
Map Feature Comparison — Build a side-by-side feature comparison across the dimensions that matter most to your buyers. Use objective, verifiable claims. Mark each feature as strong advantage, slight advantage, parity, or disadvantage. This table becomes the centerpiece of the battlecard.
-
Draft Objection Handlers — Write talk tracks for the 5–8 most common objections reps hear when competing against this vendor. Each handler follows a structure: acknowledge the objection, reframe the conversation, deliver your counter-point with proof, and bridge to your differentiator.
-
Create Win Themes and Talk Tracks — Develop 3–4 high-level win themes (e.g., "Total cost of ownership," "Time to value," "Scale without complexity") with supporting talk tracks that connect your strengths to the prospect's priorities. Include landmine questions reps can plant early in the deal to steer evaluation criteria in your favor.
Usage
Provide the competitor name, your product's key differentiators, the target buyer persona, and any known competitive dynamics. The skill outputs a complete battlecard.
