Download GIFs, stickers, and clips from GIPHY in their original quality directly from your browser. This extension is currently in development and has not been released yet.

GIPHY Downloader is an upcoming browser extension that will provide a seamless way to save GIFs, stickers, and short looping clips from GIPHY without relying on screen-capture workarounds or reduced-quality copies. It is being built to integrate with the GIPHY website so you can grab any visual asset in the format and resolution you actually want.

Why GIPHY Downloader

GIPHY hosts the largest library of GIFs, stickers, and short animated clips on the internet, yet saving those assets in their original quality is surprisingly tedious. Right-clicking a GIF on the site often yields a down-scaled or re-encoded version. Stickers with transparent backgrounds lose their alpha channel if you try to drag and drop them. Short video clips may only be available as embedded players with no direct save link. The result is that users end up with lower-quality copies or spend time hunting through page source code for the actual file URL.

GIPHY Downloader is being designed to sit inside the browser and surface every available rendition of a GIPHY asset — the full-size original GIF, the MP4 variant, the WebP version, and any other format the platform serves — so you can pick exactly what you need and save it in one click.

How It Will Work

1. Install the extension once it is released.
2. Navigate to GIPHY and find the GIF, sticker, or clip you want.
3. Click the extension icon or use the overlay button that appears on the asset.
4. Review the list of available formats and resolutions for that asset.
5. Select the format you prefer — GIF for animation, MP4 for compact video, or WebP for modern browsers.
6. Click download and the file saves directly to your chosen local folder.
7. For batch downloads, select multiple assets from a search or collection page and export them together.
8. Manage your download history inside the extension popup for quick re-downloads.

Expected Formats

• Input: GIPHY-hosted assets (animated GIFs, MP4 clips, WebP animations, sticker PNGs with alpha)
• Output: GIF, MP4, or WebP depending on your selection; stickers retain transparency

Downloaded files will be saved in standard formats compatible with messaging apps, social platforms, video editors, and presentation software without any additional conversion.

FAQ

When will GIPHY Downloader be released? A release date has not been set. Sign up at the waitlist link above to be notified as soon as it is available.

Does it download the original quality or a compressed version? The extension is being built to access every rendition GIPHY serves for a given asset, including the full-resolution original. You will be able to choose between renditions so you always get the quality level you need.

Will it handle stickers with transparent backgrounds? Yes. Sticker downloads are planned to preserve the alpha channel so the transparent background remains intact in the saved file.

Can I download MP4 clips instead of GIF files? GIPHY often serves an MP4 variant alongside the GIF, which is significantly smaller in file size. The extension will let you pick MP4 when it is available.

Is it free? Pricing details will be announced closer to launch. SERP extensions typically include a free trial period.

Can I batch-download from search results? Batch downloading from search and collection pages is a planned feature that will allow you to select and export multiple assets in a single operation.

License

This repository is distributed under the proprietary SERP Apps license in the LICENSE file. Review that file before copying, modifying, or redistributing any part of this project.
