Why iStock Downloader

iStock offers millions of stock assets across photos, vectors, illustrations, video, and audio, but managing downloads after purchase can be tedious. Each asset requires its own download action, resolution selection, and file-save step. If you have purchased a large set of images for a campaign or a batch of video clips for a project, retrieving them one at a time adds friction that slows down creative work.

iStock Downloader is being built to sit inside the browser and detect your licensed assets on iStock pages. The goal is to let you select one or many files from your purchase history, choose the resolution or format you need, and pull them all down to a local folder without repeating the same click-through process for every single asset. It keeps the entire workflow inside the browser tab where you already browse and license content.

Planned Features

  • One-click download of licensed iStock photos, vectors, and illustrations
  • Video clip and audio track downloading for multimedia projects
  • Batch selection to download multiple assets from a single purchase history page
  • Resolution and size picker that surfaces every option tied to your license tier
  • Automatic file naming using asset titles and iStock identifiers
  • Download queue that processes files sequentially so the browser stays responsive
  • Collection-aware grouping so assets from the same board stay organized on disk
  • Cross-browser compatibility targeting Chrome, Edge, Brave, and Firefox

How It Will Work

  1. Install the extension once it is released.
  2. Open iStock in your browser and sign in to your account.
  3. Navigate to your download history, a lightbox, or supported pages showing licensed assets.
  4. The extension detects available assets and displays a download panel.
  5. Select individual files or use batch-select to check multiple assets at once.
  6. Choose your preferred resolution, size, or file type for each selection.
  7. Start the download and the extension queues each file in order.
  8. Files are saved to your designated local folder, named and organized automatically.

Expected Formats

  • Photos and illustrations: JPEG, TIFF, or EPS depending on license and asset type
  • Vectors: EPS or AI source files as provided by iStock
  • Video clips: MP4 or MOV in the resolution tiers available with your license
  • Audio tracks: MP3 or WAV based on the licensing option selected at purchase

Downloaded files will match the original formats and quality levels offered through the iStock platform, preserving full resolution and metadata.

Who It's For

  • Graphic designers downloading large batches of stock images for client projects
  • Marketing teams pulling licensed visuals for campaigns, ads, and social content
  • Video editors sourcing stock footage and audio for productions
  • Web developers gathering hero images, icons, and background assets for sites
  • Content creators who license media frequently and want a faster retrieval process

Use Cases We're Building For

  • Download an entire lightbox of licensed photos before starting a design sprint
  • Pull all video clips purchased for a commercial edit into one local folder
  • Retrieve high-resolution versions of assets originally downloaded at web size
  • Archive licensed audio tracks alongside project files for offline editing
  • Batch-download a quarterly allocation of stock images across multiple collections

Security & Scope

  • Operates only on the page the user intentionally opens in the active browser tab
  • Detects supported playback sources only for user-initiated downloads or exports
  • Does not execute page instructions, shell commands, or arbitrary scripts from page content
  • Does not follow unrelated links or perform actions outside the active workflow
  • Limits support to the named platform, approved embedded contexts, and user-authorized sessions when required

About iStock

iStock is a stock media marketplace operated by Getty Images, offering millions of royalty-free photos, illustrations, vectors, video clips, and audio tracks. Users purchase individual assets or subscribe to download plans that grant access to curated libraries of creative and editorial content. While iStock provides a download mechanism for licensed files, it does not offer bulk retrieval or browser-integrated batch tools. iStock Downloader is being built to fill that gap for users who regularly license content and want a more efficient way to collect their purchased files.
