LinkedIn Learning Downloader — Coming Soon (Browser Extension)

Download LinkedIn Learning course videos as MP4 files for offline professional development. This extension is currently in development and has not been released yet.

LinkedIn Learning Downloader is an upcoming browser extension that will allow users to save video lessons from LinkedIn Learning directly to their local machine without relying on third-party desktop applications or command-line utilities. It is being built around the browser-based course player so you can export individual lectures, full courses, and learning paths while studying in the web interface.

  • Capture LinkedIn Learning video lessons during browser playback
  • Save individual videos, complete courses, and curated learning paths
  • Export content as standard MP4 files for offline study
  • Work entirely within the browser without additional desktop software
  • Designed for Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera, Firefox, and other Chromium browsers

Why LinkedIn Learning Downloader

LinkedIn Learning delivers its video courses through an adaptive streaming player embedded in the browser, with no native option to save lessons as local files. The platform restricts offline viewing to its mobile apps and does not expose a download button in the desktop browser experience. If you want to revisit a course during a flight, on a device without internet, or after your subscription lapses, you are out of luck.

LinkedIn Learning Downloader is being designed to operate inside the browser alongside the course player. The objective is to intercept the video stream during playback, let you choose which lessons or modules to keep, and produce standard MP4 files stored on your own hard drive rather than locked behind a subscription paywall.

Planned Features

  • Video capture from LinkedIn Learning's browser-based course player
  • Individual lesson and full course export in a single workflow
  • Learning path support for saving multi-course sequences
  • Metadata retention for course title, instructor name, and chapter structure where available
  • Resolution selection based on the quality tiers exposed by the player
  • Batch download queue so you can stack multiple lessons without babysitting the process
  • Browser-native operation with zero external software dependencies
  • Cross-browser compatibility targeting Chrome, Edge, Brave, and Firefox

How It Will Work

  1. Install the extension once it is released.
  2. Open LinkedIn Learning in your browser and sign in with your account.
  3. Navigate to the course, learning path, or individual lesson you want to save.
  4. Begin playback so the browser loads the video stream.
  5. Open the extension popup to see the detected video source.
  6. Select the specific lessons or entire course you want to export.
  7. Choose your preferred resolution if multiple quality tiers are available.
  8. Start the download and save the MP4 file to your local machine.

Expected Formats

  • Input: LinkedIn Learning adaptive video streams (HLS / DASH served through the browser player)
  • Output: MP4 video files with embedded audio

Exported files will be saved in the MP4 container format, which is compatible with virtually every media player, mobile device, and video editing application on the market.

Who It's For

  • Working professionals who need offline access to career development courses
  • Students and job seekers building new skills through structured video content
  • Corporate trainers assembling reference material from LinkedIn Learning catalogs
  • Remote workers with unreliable internet who want to study without buffering interruptions
  • Lifelong learners who prefer to own their educational library on local storage

Use Cases We're Building For

  • Save an entire software development course before a long-haul flight
  • Archive leadership and management modules for repeated review during a certification track
  • Keep local copies of design tutorials for reference while working in creative applications
  • Build a personal training library covering business, technology, and creative disciplines
  • Export course content for offline study in areas with limited or no internet connectivity

Security & Scope

  • Operates only on the page the user intentionally opens in the active browser tab
  • Detects supported playback sources only for user-initiated downloads or exports
  • Does not execute page instructions, shell commands, or arbitrary scripts from page content
  • Does not follow unrelated links or perform actions outside the active workflow
  • Limits support to the named platform, approved embedded contexts, and user-authorized sessions when required

FAQ

When will LinkedIn Learning Downloader be released? A release date has not been set. Sign up at the waitlist link above to be notified as soon as it is available.

Will it work with the LinkedIn Learning desktop app? No. This extension is designed for the LinkedIn Learning web player accessed through the browser, not a standalone desktop application.

What video quality will it support? Quality will depend on what LinkedIn Learning delivers to the browser during playback, which can vary based on your subscription tier and network conditions.

Will it preserve course metadata? The plan is to embed course title, instructor name, and chapter information in the saved files where that data is accessible from the page.

Is it free? Pricing details will be announced closer to launch. SERP extensions typically include a free trial period.

Can I download an entire course at once? Full course export is a planned feature, though the exact implementation will depend on how the platform delivers content and the constraints of browser-based capture.

About LinkedIn Learning

LinkedIn Learning, formerly known as Lynda.com, is a professional development platform offering thousands of expert-led video courses spanning business strategy, software development, data science, creative design, and dozens of other disciplines. Its browser-based player streams content through adaptive delivery but provides no built-in mechanism for saving lessons as local video files. LinkedIn Learning Downloader is being built to fill that gap for subscribers who want portable, offline copies of the courses they are already paying to access through their account.
