Pixabay Downloader — Coming Soon (Browser Extension)

  • Save video clips and motion graphics in their highest available quality
  • Export music tracks and sound effects as local audio files

Why Pixabay Downloader

Pixabay offers a generous library of free media, but the download experience on the site adds friction. Grabbing a photo at original resolution requires navigating a dropdown, solving a CAPTCHA on some requests, and waiting through interstitial screens. Videos are buried behind additional confirmation steps, and downloading multiple assets from a search page means repeating the entire process for each file. Music and sound effects follow a similar pattern, requiring several clicks before the actual file lands on your disk.

Pixabay Downloader is being engineered to remove that friction entirely. The extension will detect Pixabay media on the active page, expose download controls directly in the browser, and let you save files at their original quality in a single action. Whether you need one hero image or fifty assets for a project, the extension will handle the workflow inside the browser without redirects or pop-ups.

Planned Features

  • One-click download of photos and illustrations at original resolution
  • Vector file export in SVG or original uploaded format where available
  • Video download with resolution selection up to the highest quality offered
  • Music and sound effect capture as standard audio files
  • Batch selection to download multiple assets from a single search page
  • Automatic file naming based on Pixabay asset metadata and tags
  • Download queue for stacking multiple saves without blocking the browser
  • Cross-browser compatibility targeting Chrome, Edge, Brave, and Firefox

How It Will Work

  1. Install the extension once it is released from your browser's extension store.
  2. Navigate to Pixabay and search for the media you need.
  3. Browse photos, videos, illustrations, music, or sound effects as usual.
  4. Click the extension icon or use the overlay button injected on asset pages.
  5. Select the quality or resolution you prefer from the available options.
  6. For batch downloads, check multiple items from the search results grid.
  7. Confirm your selection and the extension will fetch the original files.
  8. Files are saved directly to your local downloads folder, named and organized automatically.

Expected Formats

About Pixabay

Pixabay is a free stock media platform that hosts millions of photos, illustrations, vector graphics, videos, music tracks, and sound effects. All content is released under a permissive license that allows use in commercial and non-commercial projects without requiring attribution, though credit is always appreciated. The platform relies on a community of contributors who upload original work for public use. Pixabay Downloader is being built to make the process of saving those assets faster and more efficient, letting users focus on their creative work instead of navigating download screens.
