Why Snapchat Video Downloader

Snapchat was built around ephemeral content. Stories vanish after twenty-four hours, spotlight videos cycle through algorithmically, and even public profiles on the web viewer offer no save or export button. The platform streams video content through its player but never exposes a direct file URL or download option, which means there is no native way to keep a copy of a public clip you watched in your browser.

Third-party download sites come and go, often bundled with intrusive ads and questionable privacy practices. Screen recording captures the whole viewport and produces oversized files with degraded quality. Neither approach is clean or reliable for someone who simply wants the original video file from a public page.

Snapchat Video Downloader is being designed to sit inside the browser tab alongside the Snapchat web viewer. The goal is to detect the video stream loaded in the active page, let you preview what is available, and produce a standard MP4 file saved directly to your downloads folder. No pasting URLs into external services, no desktop software, and no manual file conversion after the fact.

How It Will Work

1. Install the extension from your browser's extension store once it is released.
2. Open the Snapchat web viewer in a browser tab.
3. Navigate to a public story, spotlight video, or public user profile.
4. Let the video load and begin playing in the web viewer.
5. Click the extension icon to open the popup and see detected video sources.
6. Select the specific story segment or spotlight clip you want to save.
7. Choose your preferred resolution if the player offers multiple quality levels.
8. Start the download and the MP4 file will be saved to your local machine.

Expected Formats

• Input: Snapchat web viewer video streams (MP4 / fragmented MP4 served via adaptive streaming)
• Output: MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio, ready for playback anywhere

Exported files will be saved as standard MP4 containers compatible with virtually every media player, mobile device, and video editing application available today.

FAQ

When will Snapchat Video Downloader be released? A release date has not been set. Sign up at the waitlist link above to be notified as soon as it is available.

Does it work with private snaps or direct messages? No. This extension is designed exclusively for publicly available content on the Snapchat web viewer, such as public stories and spotlight videos. It does not access private messages, private stories, or any content that requires authentication beyond the public web viewer.

What video quality will it support? Quality will depend on what the Snapchat web viewer delivers to the browser. The extension will attempt to offer the highest available resolution for each clip.

Will it preserve the original audio? Yes. Downloaded MP4 files will include the original audio track exactly as it plays in the web viewer, including any music, voiceovers, or sound effects present in the source video.

Is it free? Pricing details will be announced closer to launch. SERP extensions typically include a free trial period.

Can I download an entire public story with multiple segments? Batch downloading of multi-segment public stories is a planned feature. The extension popup will let you select individual segments or queue all of them at once.

License

This repository is distributed under the proprietary SERP Apps license in the LICENSE file. Review that file before copying, modifying, or redistributing any part of this project.
