Why Unsplash Downloader
Unsplash hosts millions of free, high-resolution photographs contributed by photographers around the world under a permissive license that allows commercial and personal use. While the platform provides a download button on each photo page, saving images in bulk or at guaranteed original resolution still requires clicking through individual pages one at a time. There is no built-in way to select a batch of images from search results or a collection and download them all at once.
Unsplash Downloader is being designed to sit inside the browser and integrate with the Unsplash interface. The goal is to detect images on the current page, let you select one or many, and produce full-resolution downloads that land on your machine without extra steps or quality loss from browser-level compression.
Planned Features
- Full original resolution downloads bypassing any in-page downscaling
- Batch selection to grab multiple images from a single page at once
- Collection-level downloads to save every photo in an Unsplash collection
- User profile downloads to archive all photos from a specific photographer
- Filename customization with options for original names, photo IDs, or descriptions
- Metadata preservation for photographer attribution, tags, and EXIF data where available
- Download queue with progress tracking for large batch operations
- Browser-native workflow with no external software dependencies
- Cross-browser compatibility targeting Chrome, Edge, Brave, and Firefox
How It Will Work
- Install the extension once it is released.
- Navigate to Unsplash and browse photos as you normally would.
- Open a search results page, collection, or individual photo page.
- Click the extension icon to activate the selection overlay on the page.
- Select individual photos or use the batch toggle to select all visible images.
- Choose your preferred resolution if multiple sizes are available.
- Start the download and save the files to your chosen local folder.
- Review the download summary for attribution details and photographer credits.
Expected Formats
- Input: Unsplash image URLs serving JPEG, PNG, and WebP originals
- Output: Original format preserved (JPEG for photographs, PNG where applicable)
Downloaded files will retain the full resolution and quality of the original upload. No additional compression or format conversion will be applied unless explicitly requested by the user.

Security & Scope
- Operates only on the page the user intentionally opens in the active browser tab
- Detects supported playback sources only for user-initiated downloads or exports
- Does not execute page instructions, shell commands, or arbitrary scripts from page content
- Does not follow unrelated links or perform actions outside the active workflow
- Limits support to the named platform, approved embedded contexts, and user-authorized sessions when required

Does Unsplash allow bulk downloading of images? Unsplash's license permits downloading and using photos for free, including commercial use. However, the platform does not provide a native bulk download feature. This extension aims to add that convenience layer within the browser.
Will it download images at full resolution? Yes. The extension is being built to request the original resolution upload rather than the smaller previews displayed in search grids and thumbnails.
Will it include photographer attribution? The plan is to preserve photographer name, profile link, and relevant tags in the download metadata or as a companion text file, supporting proper credit practices.
Is it free? Pricing details will be announced closer to launch. SERP extensions typically include a free trial period.
Can I download entire collections at once? Collection-level batch download is a planned feature that will let you select all images within an Unsplash collection and save them in a single operation.

About Unsplash
Unsplash is a free high-resolution photo platform powered by a global community of photographers who contribute their work under a permissive license. The platform hosts millions of images spanning categories from landscapes and portraits to abstract textures and street photography. While Unsplash makes individual downloads straightforward, there is no built-in support for batch saving or guaranteed original-resolution exports across multiple images. Unsplash Downloader is being built to fill that gap for users who need efficient, high-quality image downloads at scale.
