What This Skill Does

Gary Vaynerchuk (Gary Vee) built VaynerMedia into a $200M+ agency by understanding one thing most brands get wrong: you can't ask before you give.

His "Jab Jab Jab Right Hook" framework is the most practical social media playbook for ecommerce sellers, dropshippers, and brand builders. It tells you exactly what to post, when to post it, and when to finally ask for the sale.

This skill generates platform-native jabs AND right hooks, plus applies Gary Vee's "Document Don't Create" system so you never run out of content.

The Core Framework

What's a Jab vs. a Right Hook?

JAB = Give value. No ask. Pure content that entertains, educates, or emotionally resonates. No pitch, no discount, no CTA to buy. Just value.

RIGHT HOOK = Ask for the sale. Direct offer. Clear CTA. Specific action you want them to take. This works BECAUSE you've already given value.

The ratio Gary Vee recommends: 3-5 jabs for every 1 right hook.

Platform-Native Rules (Critical)

Gary Vee's biggest lesson: every platform has its own language. A right hook that works on email FAILS on TikTok. Content must be native.

Facebook

  • Jab format: Long-form emotional story post (200-400 words), or a shareable opinion that sparks debate. Videos: 1-3 min, autoplay-friendly, captions required
  • Right hook format: Carousel ads with before/after, clear price + benefit in first line, "Shop Now" CTA

Instagram

  • Jab format: High-aesthetic single image or Reel showing behind-the-scenes, lifestyle, or quick tip. Caption = story or strong opinion
  • Right hook format: Reel with product demo + direct "Link in bio" CTA, or Story with swipe-up/link sticker

TikTok

  • Jab format: Authentic, low-production-value video. Document a real moment, share an opinion, show the "how" behind your product. Hook in first 2 seconds
  • Right hook format: Product demo showing the problem it solves, trending sound, "Get yours — link in bio" at end

Twitter/X

  • Jab format: Hot take, contrarian opinion, quick useful tip, or thread that teaches something counterintuitive
  • Right hook format: Single tweet with specific offer + link. No fluff, just value prop + link

The Jab Content Matrix

Use this to generate 5 types of jabs for any product or brand:

Type What It Is Example for Posture Corrector
Education Teach something useful "3 desk stretches that fix forward head posture in 5 min"
Entertainment Make them laugh or feel something "POV: You realize your shoulders are at your ears again"
Inspiration Motivate without selling "Back pain is optional. Most people just don't know that yet."
Behind-the-scenes Show how things work "We tested 7 designs before landing on this one. Here's why..."
Social proof Customer story, no pitch "Customer message we got this morning:" + screenshot

The "Document Don't Create" System

Gary Vee's content hack: stop trying to create perfect content. Document what's already happening.

Instead of scripting videos or planning photoshoots, document:

  • Your morning routine related to your product/niche
  • A customer question you answered today
  • A mistake you made and what you learned
  • A behind-the-scenes moment from packing, shipping, or testing

Why it works for dropshippers: You don't need a studio. Film your products arriving, your testing process, your reaction when a product surprises you. That IS the content.

Plug-and-Play Prompts

Prompt 1: 7-Day Jab + Right Hook Content Plan

Create a 7-day social media content plan using Gary Vee's Jab Jab Jab Right Hook framework for:
- Product: [PRODUCT]
- Platform: [INSTAGRAM / TIKTOK / FACEBOOK]
- Target customer: [WHO THEY ARE — e.g., "women 25-40 with back pain from desk jobs"]
- One core benefit: [MAIN BENEFIT]
- Price/offer: [PRICE OR OFFER FOR RIGHT HOOK]

Days 1-3: Jabs only (1 per day — education, entertainment, or behind-the-scenes)
Day 4: Jab (social proof or inspiration)
Day 5: Jab (educational or entertaining)
Day 6: Soft jab with product mention (not a hard pitch)
Day 7: Right hook (clear offer, CTA, specific)

For each post: write the caption, suggest the visual/video concept, and flag if it's a jab or right hook.

Prompt 2: Single Platform-Native Right Hook

Write a platform-native "Right Hook" sales post for [PLATFORM: TikTok / Instagram / Facebook] for:
- Product: [PRODUCT]
- Price: [PRICE]
- Main benefit: [BENEFIT — what problem does it solve?]
- Proof: [1 customer result or social proof element]
- Offer hook: [Any discount, free shipping, bundle, etc.]

Rules:
- TikTok: Hook in first 2 seconds, casual language, product demo concept, "link in bio" CTA
- Instagram: Lead with the transformation/result, Story format OR Reel concept, "tap link in bio"
- Facebook: Lead with the benefit, include price, end with specific CTA button instruction

Make it feel native, not like a traditional ad.

Prompt 3: "Document Don't Create" Content Ideas

Give me 10 "Document Don't Create" content ideas for my [PRODUCT/BRAND]:
- Business type: [DROPSHIP STORE / BRAND / SERVICE]
- What you actually do day-to-day: [e.g., "test new products, pack orders, talk to suppliers"]
- Target platform: [TIKTOK / INSTAGRAM / BOTH]

Each idea should be something I can film with my phone in under 5 minutes with zero scripting. Flag whether it's a jab (pure value) or can double as a soft right hook.

Prompt 4: Jab Series for Warming Up an Audience

I'm launching [PRODUCT] in 2 weeks. Write a 5-post "jab warming" series for [PLATFORM] that builds curiosity and trust before the launch.

- Product: [PRODUCT]
- Core customer pain: [PAIN POINT]
- The unique mechanism or solution: [HOW IT WORKS]

Each post should give real value about the problem/solution without directly pitching the product. By post 5, they should be asking "what is this thing?" on their own.

Format: Caption + visual concept for each post.

Real Example Output

7-Day Plan: Wireless Ear Cleaning Camera (TikTok)

Day 1 (Jab - Education):

Caption: "The real reason Q-tips make earwax worse... (this shocked me) 🧵" Visual: Face-cam reaction video explaining how Q-tips push wax deeper. No product mention.

Day 2 (Jab - Entertainment):

Caption: "POV: you've been cleaning your ears wrong your whole life 💀" Visual: Relatable reaction meme format with text overlay

Day 3 (Jab - Behind-the-scenes):

Caption: "We tested 40 ear camera models. Here's what most get wrong..." Visual: Quick unboxing/comparison of rejected products, raw phone footage

Day 4 (Jab - Social Proof):

Caption: "We didn't expect this message... 🥹" Visual: Screenshot of customer review/DM with their result

Day 5 (Jab - Education):

Caption: "5 signs you have a buildup you can't feel" Visual: List-style text overlay or talking-head video

Day 6 (Soft Jab with Product Mention):

Caption: "This is why I started carrying mine everywhere" Visual: Casual "lifestyle" clip using the product, no price, no CTA — just normalizing it

Day 7 (Right Hook):

Caption: "The exact camera I used in all these videos — $29, free shipping, link in bio 🔗" Visual: 15-second demo showing the product working, end card with price + link

Why This Works

Gary Vee's framework is built on one truth: attention is the asset, not the product.

Every jab deposits trust into your brand account. The right hook withdraws from it. If you only post right hooks (pure ads), your account goes negative — people unfollow, mute, or tune you out.

Drop 3-5 pieces of genuine value first, and when you ask, people are ready to say yes.

This is why dropshippers who run organic content alongside paid ads consistently outperform those running ads alone. The jabs warm the audience the ads close.

Apply to: TikTok + Instagram organic, Facebook page strategy, Twitter/X growth, pre-launch campaigns, email marketing, YouTube Shorts.
