Social Media Post
Purpose
Write social media posts about events, experiences, topics, or other content for multiple platforms. This is a general-purpose social media writing skill (for blog-specific promotion, see the blog-promotion skill).
Process
Before writing posts:
- Clarify the purpose and desired outcomes, then improve on them.
- Recap the instructions provided.
- Present a plan for the posts.
- Write the posts.
The how-to-write and how-not-to-write guidelines apply only to the text of the social media posts, not to the planning and analysis sections of the response.
Information to Gather
Ask the user for any of the following that are relevant:
- Event: What is the event, topic, or subject of the post?
- Location: Where did it take place (if applicable)?
- Context: Key facts, details, and talking points.
- Tips: Specific guidance (e.g., "Mention the book name," "Tag the speaker").
- Relevant data: URLs, social media handles, usernames for Twitter/X and Instagram.
Platforms
Write versions for each of:
- Twitter/X
How to Write
- Be concise.
- Only say things that are relevant.
- Write in a conversational voice.
- Appear authentic and genuine.
- Sound sincere.
- Share insights that demonstrate thoughtfulness.
- Display any URL links in the output because most platforms do not support copying and pasting rich text into their posting areas.
How Not to Write
- Do not brag or humble brag.
- Do not sound obsequious.
- Do not seem star-struck or put the author down or make others look more important.
- Do not use words like "honored" or "privileged" that sound obsequious or like humble bragging.
- Do not be verbose.
- Do not state the obvious.
- Do not write in marketing-speak.
- Do not use grandiose adjectives or adverbs that add little value.
- Do not write in a way that seems like showing off, trying too hard, or desperate.
- Hashtags often give the impression the post is not speaking from the heart. Avoid hashtags unless they genuinely add value. If using them, place a few highly relevant ones at the end.
- Use @ mentions of people's names at the end of the post. In the main body, write their names naturally, as a human would.
